A primary school in Berlin was forced to evacuate on Friday morning after dozens of students reported symptoms believed to be caused by an unidentified irritant gas.
Authorities were alerted around 9 a.m. after multiple pupils at Miriam Makeba Elementary School in the Moabit district began experiencing difficulty breathing. Initial reports suggest that the substance may have been released in one of the school’s hallways.
The Berlin fire department confirmed that 37 children were affected by the incident. Seven of them received medical attention on site, and one child was transported to a hospital for further treatment.
