Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs Renews Partnership with UK’s Gatton College

The Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE) and the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics will continue their collaboration through at least 2027, thanks to a newly extended agreement between the two organizations.

Anne Jewell, President and CEO of GSE, shared that the upcoming class of students is set to arrive this Sunday to kick off an intensive three-week summer experience.

“During their time with us, students will learn how to identify real-world problems, brainstorm innovative solutions, and design a startup to address those issues,” Jewell explained. “The program culminates in a pitch competition modeled after Shark Tank, where students present their ventures to a panel.”

The renewed partnership ensures that participants will benefit from continued access to top-tier resources, facilities, and mentors at Gatton College. This year’s cohort will be the largest in GSE history, welcoming 160 high school students from across Kentucky.

Jewell emphasized the personal impact the program has on its students. “One of the most powerful takeaways for participants is the network they build. They connect with peers from all corners of the state—students they might never have crossed paths with otherwise.”

Since its founding in 2013, GSE has reached students from 101 of Kentucky’s 120 counties. Alumni of the program have gone on to launch more than 70 businesses, a testament to the program’s focus on real-world entrepreneurial skills.

With its continued alliance with Gatton College, GSE remains committed to fostering the next generation of Kentucky entrepreneurs and changemakers.
